President Wilson was confident that the american people would support Treaty of Versailles . Wilson needed Republican and Democratic support but he refused to take Republicans with him to the Peace Conference. The "Irreconcilables" would not support the treaty what so ever. The said it was the entangled alliance that the fathers had warned them about. The "Reservationists" were willing to support the treaty if certain amendments were made to the League of Nations. They agreed with the treaty as long as every military action was ran threw congress first. The treaty was voted on twice and shot down both times. After wilson was out of office the treaty was negotiated with each of the Central Powers.
